It's oddy interesting that L2 is based on the Unreal2 engine which came about in 2003. 2 years prior to GW's release.
I dunno, kind of makes you step back and go "hmmm, i guess some things don't look as good as I thought they did". I think GW made a comprimise between environment and player/armor/weapons. Whereas L2 focused primarily on player/armor/weapons (from what I remember when playing it, wasn't the prettiest environments in L2).

You may have missed my earlier post. That said, L2's compromise is the lack of shading effects.

If anything, L2 is crazy with the shader effects. Far more than GW is. Just about every melee class' attacks have some special graphics associated. The polearm classes actually feel like they hit hard. Some of the caster graphics are quite fun (Hydro Blast for example).
The closest thing to badass graphics we get in GW for spells is [meteor shower].
And was I the only one who was disappointed that I didn't turn into a bear the first time I used Ursan?

I'm referring to the weapons. Unless there was an update, all the textures for the weapons have decent resolutions but are static. The armors have some decent shine shading effects, though.

True, aside from a few particle effects from over enchanting and an evil aura on the Zairiche, I don't remember any other weapons having an effect of their own.
That said, the art work on a lot of GW weapons are weak. At least in the details. In fact, most of the ones I find to be attractive have some sort of effect on them (storm bows, blade axe, celestial shield and weapons). The standard textured-only weapons seem dull.

By far the Flaming Dragon Sword and the Icey Dragon Sword are the best looking weapons in the entire game. I like the staff they gave us for pre ordering GWEN as well because it has a moving hourglass part in it. The only other weapon I like is that Saruron (sp) Scythe looks like a Dragon head on it. The rest are pretty bland.

Ahh i miss the [[Simple Thievery] bug. I wonder why they couldn't implement player's physical appearance changing into bears, ravens or wolves. 8 of these running around would be fun to watch (but not play )

I still think the Greater Guardian Spear is one of the best looking weapons in the game:

Again, Di Vinci vs. Picasso. Neither are better, only people's tastes. Some people don't want to have their weapon be a piece of lightening or have an enlarged, glowing glass plate as a shield.

One of my favorites is the platinum blade. Looks good when coupled with adamantine shield and warrior kurzick armor. My other favorite combo is legendary/gothic sword with magmas shield.

It's because all of GW is streamed, low texture resolution = less bandwidth for them to pay for.

Eternal Blade for sure.
Crystalline is alright, but too small.
Obsidian Edge just looks plain boring.
Fellblade is amazing, cheap, original, but still good.
FDS and IDS are both ftw

I've always favored the Fellblade, Tormented Shield, and Dragon Kamas, personally. Icy Dragon Sword looks kind of nice. Couldn't give a damn about Eternal Blade or Crystalline. I'd just sell them both.
